The first Beidou Satellite Navigation Industry International Cooperation and Investment Forum was held in Nanning, Guangxi Wharton International Hotel during the 10th China - ASEAN Expo on Sep.5, 2013. Zhang Xiaoqin, Vice Chairman of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Ran Chengqi, director of China Satellite Navigation Office, Ba Risi, General Counsel of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, Wu Zhuo, vice director of China Space Foundation and Alexander Lin, director assistant of Science and Technology Department of the CAEXPO Secretariat attended the meeting and delivered speeches. The representatives tried to promote BeiDou (COMPASS) Navigation Satellite System (BDS) application in ASEAN members under the theme of “Sensing Beidou, Serving ASEAN”.
Zhang Xiaoqin said Guangxi would like to take this opportunity to promote BDS application and industrialization, build Beidou industrial park, build BDS application and industrialization demonstration bases, strengthen cooperation with ASEAN members in the fields of BDS industry, take an active part in BDS industrialization and international investment cooperation and push forward BDS application in ASEAN.
Ran Chengqi said that BDS officially started to provide all weather navigation, positioning and timing service in the Asia-Pacific region at the end of last year, and will provide better service to the whole world by 2020. BDS belongs not only to China but also to the world. ASEAN is China's natural partner and a main service object of BDS. Now at the 10thanniversary of China-ASEAN strategic partnership, as an important part of China-ASEAN cooperation, China attaches great importance to the campaign of Beidou to ASEAN and hopes the achievements of BDS to serve the development of ASEAN members as soon as possible. BDS will play a bigger role in building the "diamond decade" of China-ASEAN cooperation, as hi-tech information technology will be applied in more areas of cooperation such as disaster mitigation, marine fisheries, transportation and tourism.
Li Zhongbao, director of the Satellite Application Research Institute under China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation delivered a theme report as head of BDS companies delegation. The experts and representatives discussed and exchanged views on the applications of BDS in disaster relief, intelligent transportation, public security, financial organizations “going out” with enterprises and BDS high precision application.
' Beidou Satellite Navigation Industry International Cooperation and Investment Forum ' was hosted by the Investment Promotion Agency of the Ministry of Commerce of China, China Satellite Navigation Office, China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, China - ASEAN Expo Secretariat, and organized by China Academy of Space Technology, China Aerospace Science and Engineering Systems Research Institute, Industry and Information Technology Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone Plan and Construction Office, China - Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park Management Committee, Wuhan IT Outsourcing Services and Research Center, China Aerospace Science and Technology Consulting Co., Ltd. Beidou Navigation Technology Co., Ltd. More than 300 people including officials of China -ASEAN investment promotion agencies and departments in charge, experts of relevant research and inquiry agencies, financial organizations of China and ASEAN, representatives of China and ASEAN industrial park and entrepreneurs of China and ASEAN satellite navigation industry attended the meeting.
As the first step of BDS to ASEAN, the promotion at China-ASEAN Expo marks the beginning of BDS to Southeast Asia. BDS representatives engaged in sessions including ASEAN Industrial Park Investment Conference, China-ASEAN Port City Cooperation Network Forum, the Roundtable Cooperation of China-ASEAN Expo Investment, China-ASEAN Technology Transfer and Innovation Cooperation Conference, and a special session for BDS: Beidou Satellite Navigation Industry International Cooperation and Investment Forum.
